About Me...
I would like to introduce myself, I was a Marathon runner from Port Alberni, BC, Canada. My name is Rose Kamma Morrison. After running the Boston Marathon 2009, I embarked on a campaign for the inclusion of a Visually Impaired category in Canadian running events. My first success was the Goodlife Victoria marathon 2009 which included this category in their 3 distances for the first time in it's 30+ year history. With the help of like minded VI/Blind athletes they too, take upon the idea to their communities of adding the VI category. I have run the Victoria marathon 5 times, qualified for and ran Boston in 2009 ran in the BMO Vancouver marathon May 2nd 2010 (all together ran 13 marathons) . I am a kayaker, rock climber, hiker, cyclist, practice yoga, have recently taken up swimming, and did my first sprint triathlon September 2012. Away from sport I am an artist (2nd runner up at the Chicago's Passionate Focus Art show in 2011 (and been in 4 art shows), photographer and public speaking. I have been doing presentations to many Lions clubs and various groups in the US and Canada. In the past, I became a member of the International Lions, volunteered at the Red Cross, and peer counselor for the CNIB(Canadian National Institute for the Blind). All this whilst living day to day with Ushers Syndrome, an hereditary disease which is slowly robbing me of my sight and hearing, I have approximately less than 10 degrees of peripheral vision (tunnel vision) and moderate to severe hearing loss.
I will not allow Usher's Syndrome to define me, in fact, I challenge it.
~ My horizon is broader than my tunnel vision.
